"Even the
smallest steps can make a big difference..." Martyn
Williams is one of the world's foremost adventure guides and expedition
leaders, being the first person to lead successful expeditions to the three extremes...
the North and South Poles, and the summit of Mount Everest. He is co-founder of
Adventure Network International Inc. which has assisted all private expeditions to the
Antarctic interior since 1985.
More recently,
Martyn had a dream that he could inspire millions of people to take environmental and
humanitarian action. That dream came true in 2000 when he undertook an incredible
journey that no one had ever done before - 24,000 miles by ski, foot, bicycle, kayak and
canoe from the North Pole to the South Pole. For more than nine arduous months
Martyn and his team truly experienced the earth's extremes - temperatures ranging
from minus 35 degrees in the Arctic to 115 degrees in the desert, over mountains and
across rivers, through rainforests and past windswept Patagonia , and again braving
the unbearable cold of the Antarctic.
For this unparalleled
expedition, Martyn chose for his team inexperienced youth that had never attempted
anything like this before, to demonstrate to others the unlimited potential that exists
within us all. Along the way, the team helped with environmental clean ups, wildlife
habitat protection, the homeless in New York and spoke to 12,000 youths worldwide about
the fact that 'Small Steps make a BIG Difference'. Their saga was followed by hundreds of
millions of people worldwide through TV news and documentaries, radio, print, and on the
internet.
Martyn's presentation
of this name is a truly inspiring account of this amazing journey and the lessons that can
be learned from the planning, funding, and execution of such a complex expedition.
