...to a John Amatt
Presentation? It is often difficult to quantify how
effective a presentation is to your audience, but if anyone
can do it, the Society for Human Resource Management
can. After John Amatt's recent presentation to the
SHRM Colorado State Conference, they followed up the session
with this informative audience evaluation.

March 2007 -
In recent months, John Amatt has travelled to the Galapagos
Islands of Ecuador (famous for the visit of Charles Darwin
during his "Voyage of the Beagle" expedition, which
took place from 1831 to 1836) and the Tanzanian National
Parks of Kilimanjaro and Ngorongoro/Olduvai Gorge to
research material for his new topic, "The Evolution of
Change". He is seeking to identify the natural processes
that lead to change and to investigate why we as humans spend
so much effort resisting it.
Watch out for more details of
this innovative approach to leading change!

October 2006 - John
Amatt was profiled in a Wall Street Journal feature
entitled “Winning Metaphors: At Office Retreats Tales
of Adversity Fire Up the Staff”, by George Anders
(October 13, 2006), in which John’s use of the “adventure
metaphor” was strongly endorsed. Two of John’s clients
were interviewed for the story:
At Exxon
Mobil Corp., procurement chief Jean Baderschneider says
she used to book celebrities or management gurus as speakers.
No more. They were too glib to connect with her teams, and in
some cases she can’t even remember their names. Now she
invites gritty survivors to tell their stories at major staff
events. “You need to build passion,” Ms. Baderschneider
says. “These speakers get people’s juices flowing. They
make us realize that our challenges are nothing compared with
what they have done.”
In the
medical-equipment industry, Kinetic Concepts Inc. hired
Mr. Amatt earlier this year to address its 1,500-person sales
force, which was dispirited by Medicare cuts. “We couldn’t
conceive of another way to do things,” says Cyndi Erp, a KCI
executive. “He told us how sometimes you have to rethink
your path. We thought he would have to customize his talk for
us, but actually we found out that wasn’t necessary. Our
salespeople took what he said and applied it to their everyday
life.”
